The Best Bloomin’ Blender!

Vitamix blender

The Vitamix 5200 blenders are the best on the market.  You can use them to make your cleansing smoothies, dips, soups, and chopped vegetables…they even grind up nuts and grains!  and when you put it head to head with other blenders of it’s caliber,  Vitamix comes out on top:

Price

Vitamix has the lowest price for it’s quality and has a 7-year warranty no matter where you buy it.

Strength

Vitamix allows you to add fruits and vegetables whole or with very little chopping to remove the core. It will blend them completely and you won’t need to stop the blender.

Capactiy

Vitamix’s 64 oz. jar can be filled to the brim, and you can use the blender when the jar is at full capacity with the same results as if it were only at half full.

Speed and Power

You can gradually ramp up this blender from 500 RPM all the way up to its top end of 37,000 RPM by slowly turning up the dial. This allows for much smaller increments of power ramp up.

The Vitamix blender is a kitchen workhorse that blows any other blender out of the water! If they are out of your price range, check out the refurbished section for returned models which are usually as good and more inexpensive!

Not Donuts…Fonuts!

Nov 1, 2011 by

I recently made a visit with my family to the new Hollywood “doughnut” house on 3rd st, Fonuts.  Fonuts is a “bakery” that specializes in wheat free, gluten free and vegan doughnuts that, best of all, are completely unfried!  We talked to Nancy Truman, creator and co-founder of the Fonuts and she clued us into to some recipe secrets. The fonuts are made with minimal amount coconut oil, a mixture of almond and white rice flour, and for every eight “donuts”  the bakery uses only three tablespoons of organic cane sugar.

Truman was a voice actor, and an at-home baker who had never even used an electric mixer.  It was in collaboration with her friend and neighbor, Waylynn Lucas, former award winning pastry chef  at The Bazzar at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, that the wheat-intolerant Truman opened up Fonuts, bringing her healthy and yummy creations to the rest of us.

These ultra healthful and mouthwatering treats will blow you away sweet and savory flavors. You can order fonuts in flavors from Banana Chocolate to Chorizo Cheddar.  Lemon was my favorite and my girls liked the banana-chocolate.  The maple bacon is VERY interesting and popular with many people.  My family and I loved Fonuts and I encourage you to bring your family- its a sweet and healthy outing!

I was in NYC over the weekend and found the coolest juice place in Manhattan. Everything on their menu looked fantastic. I ended up trying one of their new drinks called, The Guru: coconut water and meat, whole blended apple, vegan dha omega oil, goji berries, banana, blueberry, hemp protein powder, raw cacao topped with hemp seeds. It was soooo good!!! Here is their website if you are ever in NY check them out!

Babycakes Vegan Bakery

Jul 8, 2011 by

SheSez Contributor Elissa Goodman has always been a pretty healthy eater – but since becoming an integrative nutritionist, she’s become even more selective about her food choices.  However, and this is the cool part, she doesn’t sacrifice on taste.  Whenever I go out to lunch with her, just for fun (and to broaden my horizons) I order what she does – and each time, it’s just as delicious – if not more so – than any fare I’d typically select.

Elissa opened up my eyes to how fantastic healthy food can be, once again, last week when she turned me on to Babycakes.  The NYC vegan institution on Broome Street recently opened in downtown LA.
